Killjoy's A community Divided information.
Simply spreading information.

A (not so) Speedy guide to the chaos that is the current status of deviantART, and an obvious idea of my position ( i want answers. i support jark, because i support this community, and i support this company; as a means to keeping the community alive. )
  - and here's the much easier to read mirror!

What Started This:
  - Jark's Story. - How dA began, as the co-founder remembers it, since before we knew it was coming. a must read.
  - Jark's Email - When Jark noticed something was wrong, he asked for information, this led to...
  - Jark's Termination - Scott tells us what he can of what exactly went down, and its an appalling bit of news.
  - Jark's Response, #1 - Scott pleas for community action.
  - Jark's Response, #2 - Scott gets a little hot, but gives time to praise those who try hard to be a part of this wonderful little community he worked so hard to make happen.
  - Jark's Response, #3 - Scott reminds us to focus on the most important part, a calm but resilient and dissatisfied response to the current state of affairs in deviantART.
  - Jark's Response, #4 - A somewhat abrasive and blunt look at new events, particularly the appearance of the Llama emoticon.
  - The Missing Conversation - a deleted conversation in comments, between jark and liquisoft. (warning, large screenshot!)
  - The Emails. - provided by 'probingthetruth' blogspot, is a database of most of the emails leading up to the events at hand.
  - Staff Forum Leak - a somewhat disturbing conversation had by staff over what is going on, i warn, its a lil choppy, apparently pasted together screenshots.
  - Spyed's (Angelo's) Journals - while not particularly informative in regards to the issues, important to read, particularly the comments on them.

Miscellanous Related Information:
  - a Flicker account - full of very informative, entertaining, appaling, and otherwise, screenies from this ordeal.
  - a Conversation with Spyed - a conversation i had with angelo "spyed" sotira in 2002.
  - an Old Termination Letter - this was sent out to twelve staff members in 2004, there are similarities in how it happened then, to how it happened to Jark.
  - Old Organizational Chart - this is a late 2004 chart of how staff breaks down in dA, presented for informational purposes, no longer 100% accurate.
  - [link]"archive.org: the Founders - this is a very old contact page that archive.org saved from deviantart.com, it clearly shows who the founders are.

The Current Staff's Response:
  - Firelite, Gallery Director - gets a little angry after taking a certainly overwhelmingly large amount of reading materials to get caught up on what's going on.
  - Serpentinekiss, Gallery Director - is at a lack for answers, and is as much at a want for them as the average user.
  - AchFoo, Prints Staff - gives us his simple opinion.
  - crazyleafhead, m.n. op - sends her heartfelt condolences and farewell to Jark.
  - ekud, staff forever - tells us what he thins of scott, and offers a heartfelt goodbye.
  - liquisoft, $core admin - reminds us that this site isn't right without a little yellow in it, and expresses condolences.
  - mirrorkills, p.v. staff - knows that something hasn't just changed, but is still changing, due to all this.
  - mkinne, staff addict - long ago gave us a haunting question that is only weird to read today. yes, this was in 2004. (his current thoughts)
  - mikeylove, $core admin if anyone knows the story, its mikey. and he presents it, and his thoughts on it. !Must read!

Former Staff's Response:
  - Matteo, Co-Founder - is drooling on himself with anger, but keeps himself short and to the point. ..Matteo was fired long ago, his journal in response to that was this.
  - Arc, former $core admin - free of the restraint of the heinous NDAs running around like elves, tells us how he remembers deviantART happening, and his opinion of the current events.
  - Dygel, former $core admin - although terminated before these events, has his own view of things.
  - Tack, former $core admin - just plain gets up and leaves in disgust, sadness, who really knows.
  - FusionRock, former staff - lets us know where he is on this position, and provides some screenies.
  - BornGhost, former staff - gives us his thoughts and feelings on what has happend.
  - mp3chuck, former staff - gives us an oddly related story, song, and some interesting links throughout. must read! (and more! )
  - voodoo-prophet, former staff - the once dominator of irc shows us he's not too happy, but he's still here.
  - neom, terminated staff - reminds us how it used to be, and how it should be.
  - inennui, former staff - there's nothing here, but they are no longer staff, and no longer have deviations.
  - phae, former $core - is quite sad, and underlines the point, we're missing a huge piece of us now.
  - itirep, former staff - is not even recognized for services as staff, and has plenty to say. must read from a must know deviant.
  - zlim, former staff - also not recognized for his services, but offers us his thoughts from each day of this ordeal.
  - chad, former staff - of dA and dM, he's been here since the dawn of time, and has a few interesting logs from staff/admin here. (nothing shocking.)
  - olya, former staff - one of dA's best known characters puts her thoughts and allegiance forward.
  - tobyf, former help desk staff - leaves us for unrelated reasons.
  - tomgehrke, former staff - also not credited for his role in staff, spends a moment sharing a lot of thoughts and views on this.
  - noir, former staff - a longtime deviant, a once staffer, presents their memories and thoughts on whats happening.

Staff Resigning over Jark's expulsion;
  - twosilverstars, former artists relations staff - resigns sadly, in reaction to the state of these events.
  - blue-six, former m.n. staff - simply resigns under the weight of things that have happened, and later talks a little
  - brazensix, former $core - resigns, and not in the happiest of words does he do it, either. (multiple entries)
  - bzed, former staff - leaves amidst all the events in whole, and seems a little worse the wear.
  - cassed, former staff - was amidst staff not very long, but even so felt the situation too much to stay in place.
  - hypermind, former staff - gets up and gets out, all the way around really.
  - jasonvelocity, former staff - says the most with the least words possible, amen.
  - omniomi, former staff - gets a little hot, and leaves the staff behind.
  - velociraptor, former staff - simply resigns under the events and his workload outside the site.
  - radiositysg, former staff - leaves in response to spyed's handling of affairs.
  - zeros-elipticus, former staff - also has left the staff, but is devoted to this community and staying with us.
  - dj-designs, former staff - the art man himself has left, dA wont even LOOK the same now.
  - euphoria, former $core - a long time admin resigns, with scathing words towards former co-workers.
  - alchemism, former staff - not just former staff, but long time member, simply resigns with a short comment.

  - Interesting Screenies from Devoit - a bit controversial in comments, but the two screenshots included are striking in information.

My Thoughts, Condensed:
- I did not want to use this journal to express my thoughts, but due to how much it is being read, and people are taking its existence and its theme to project my point of view simply from its existence and the information linked, unfortunately, a lot of people are getting very wrong ideas about my goal and my reason for this journal's existence.
- Most importantly to me, I must express my allegiances and my 'side' in this. It is, was, and always will be this community. I believe in the company, and its importance in surviving, for this community to survive. in some ways its unfortunate that deviantART alone has become basically, the heart and should of the online art community, the skinning community, the writing community, hell, it even plays a strong role for the anthro/furry community at this point. it's a blending pot that has become essential for this community's overall survival. to lose dA right now would cripple the online art scene, there is no art community left that is capable of handling all the people here, not even combining all the well known communities, would it be possible. Now, I list why I've come to be considered "the bad guy" in this community, this is mostly for those who are newer, and weren't around when the events transpired.
- The big, fat, cementing of that view, came with the rift between me and staff that seemed to grow, the more well known I became. I can't deny that they almost look related, like I was using my ability to aggravate the company ( that's how I'll refer to staff and core, for sack of ease, not as a degrading word in any way. ) to further my ability to become better known. the biggest difference where I became most vocal was gate09 and the first inception of deviantMobile. I did not like either project, deviantMobile, because it was floundering and the artists were confused on a lot of crucial aspects of it, it just wasn't playing well back then. in time, as we see with the new inception of deviantMobile, that was worked out, and I like it now, a lot. but it took 3 years to fix, I underline this ; I was right, dA wasn't ready for it then, we weren't capable.
- gate09 was the big one. I will be candid, my opinion was expressed very vocally, very.. incendiary, and well, I could a done with better grammar, lol. It gave the appearance I was more or less just plain going against the company, or at least, that was a view that could be taken. that's bullshit, always will be bullshit, and I would love to slap anyone who still thinks that's what I was doing, or am doing. its bogus, don't stick words in my mouth, k? k! anyways. the conversation with Angelo linked further below, occurred over gate09. again, overall, I still feel I was right, and that events since then, have proven me so.. we weren't ready or capable, as community -and- company, to overcome what would be staggering odds against us. the competition in the clothing world is ferocious and ruthless, they will mimic you, to get rid of you., if your idea sells. it has worked in the past, it will work in the future. do I believe the company can really assess the competition and make a marginal success in clothing now? its possible, as a company and community, dA has grown older, and can approach such ideas, I hope, more cautiously and thoughtfully.
- my allegiances over the years have also proven questionable, to deviantART's people. I was, and am again, a member of the Raster Art Group, who overall, has not been dA's best friend over the years. the opinions held by other member's of the group, are not my opinions, their goals and desires, are not mine. don't stick words in my mouth, k? k! also, and a bit more critically, another flare up with staff... this time off site. Abnormis community is another community, not known for being "pro-dA" ...at all. it was in circles seen as 'anti-dA' and in ways, that is true, some people in that community hate dA, and bear no consideration for how dA helped them, when they were active members. shortsighted and selfish fucks, in my humble opinion.
- skipping to today. I support this community, as I always have. I support this company, as I always have. I have not always shown it, but I respect what the people who make this work, do, because a lot of them, have done so much, for us, Angelo (Spyed) included. while I have not always agreed with Angelo's actions, the outcomes of them, I do not dismiss that dA is still here, and has gained members, community, and features, since he took the helm. he has moved us forward. I do not agree with the way Scott ( Jark ) was removed, it was abrupt and created too much chaos, and if properly reviewed before it was done, a better plan of events could have been weighed, possibly an agreeable course of action with Scott as well.
- while I cannot say I agree with Scott's removal, I cannot say I am 100% convinced it wasn't the right action. I have not been presented with enough convincing evidence. many things are questionable, against Angelo and Andrew, but he still has support of some employees, importantly, much of the $core is still intact. I still support Scott though, for what he's done in this community, for individuals, as well as all of us. its un-ignorable, and for that, its inexcusable at this point, that these events have played the way they have.
- my stance is this community needs to support itself, and press for answers in the ways that each person deems appropriate for themselves, and find people of similar mind. do not force your protest method on others, we all have the same goals in this, just take it rationally, calmly, and open minded.
- until more evidence is presented, I'm not taking part in any protest movement of any facet, I will support Scott and the demand for knowledge the way I am, by giving the community's response, and the information that has made its way to us, the way it was presented. I have only one bias, the community first.
- still think I'm the fucking bad guy Angelo?

And the rest of you;
  - i am a busy person, but deviantART has been my home on the internet for nearing 5 years now, i'm one of the longest standings members, and despite coming close to being banned, still support this place.
  - as one of the oldest members of deviantART, i want to express my respect to everyone who is holding a side in this, even if thats a neutral or 'willfully ignorant' position. you have that right.

I Need Help With This!
  - again, i'm quite busy on a daily basis, i do a lot outside dA and try to keep up on dA, and this is around my work schedule and frequent illness, any help is appreciated, particularly info about;
    - other members / staff / former staff responses to this
    - related off-site resposnes to this.
    - any further information about this or related events.
    - past events that are of weight in this.
    - i'm listing staff as former or terminated, help me correct it to reflect the proper title!
    - your own journals of support, thoughts, etc!
    - others journal's you feel are important!
    - anything, anything at all thats related! forums, chat logs, comments, deviations, etc!

Thanks to:
  - liquify - for helping culminate the information, and getting me involved at all.
  - hempingway - for the major assistance with cobbling together the links so far had.
  - justthorne - for the journal and the links in it, mad props
  - splat - for the overwhelming amount of information in the journal he has, much of it reposted here.
  - everyone - on and off-site, who's provided information, those unnamed for protection, and the overwhelming numbers i just cant name off. its you who make this a ocmmunity.

How to Help Me:
  - email! email me information, i can be had at killjoy@uzi.cc
  - IM ME! i'm on aim when i'm home, 'god damn gun' feel free to just IM me info that might be interesting, heck, just IM to say hi or, well, whatever!
  - notes! just want to use dA ? note me then, i try to keep up on them as fast as i can!
  - MOST IMPORTANT - spread this around! link to it, make people see it, or copy and paste it right into your own journal, i give full permission to copy this and update it as you see fit on your own space! ('journal friendly' text version here.)

Take some time..

30 Seconds to Mars

Listening to: 30 Seconds to Mars - The Killing
Watching: V for Vendetta

"The Kill"

What if I wanted to break
Laugh it all off in your face
What would you do? (Oh, oh)
What if I fell to the floor
Couldn't take all this anymore
What would you do, do, do?

Come break me down
Marry me, bury me
I am finished with you

What if I wanted to fight
Beg for the rest of my life
What would you do?
You say you wanted more
What are you waiting for?
I'm not running from you (from you)

Come break me down
Marry me, bury me
I am finished with you
Look in my eyes
You're killing me, killing me
All I wanted was you

I tried to be someone else
But nothing seemed to change
I know now, this is who I really am inside.
Finally found myself
Fighting for a chance.
I know now, this is who I really am.

Ah, ah
Oh, oh
Ah, ah

Come break me down
Marry me, bury me
I am finished with you, you, you.
Look in my eyes
You're killing me, killing me
All I wanted was you

Come break me down (bury me, bury me)
Break me down (bury me, bury me)
Break me down (bury me, bury me)

(You say you wanted more)
What if I wanted to break...?
(What are you waiting for?)
Bury me, bury me
(I'm not running from you)
What if I
What if I
What if I
What if I
Bury me, bury me
